Rendering Fat

Grandma’s Lye Soap was made with rendered fat; this fat would have come from goat, beef, pork or lamb.

Exfoliating soap – what to add to your soap?

How to make exfoliating soap

gardener soap, poppy seed

Gardeners soap with poppy seed

When washing with an exfoliating soap it will help to remove oil and dead skin, also removing any dirt that may be clogging the pores, this then helps the skin to absorb moisture. When the skin is able to absorb moisture it will look and feel so much better.

What kind of exfoliant added to the soap your are making would depend on what you are using the soap for and how much scrub you want. It’s a good idea to test them out first. Large and sharp exfoliants will be great for your hands, feet and body, but maybe not so nice on your face. Continue reading

They are now sold at most health food stores to help fight seasonal and chronic ear issues.

Ear candling will draw out any wax build up cleaning out your ears to help prevent any future problems.

How do Ear Candles work?

Beeswax Lip Balm Recipe

Homemade Lip Balm

Making your own lip balm recipe is so much better than buying any tube of lip balm or chap stick from the store, and probably not near as natural as making your own beeswax lip balm.

There are a few companies that now make all natural lip balms, so you can find them in the stores, but you will more than likely pay a fair price for them when you can make your own for pennies.

natural soap, soap care, soap storage

How to care for your soap?

The first thing you need to know about homemade handmade soap is that it needs to breathe. This is important to help the soap cure – the longer it cures the harder the bar will get. It will stay hard so long as it is not sitting in water or in an area that it will attract moisture.
