About Me

Hello and welcome — and Happy New Year!

It’s hard to believe it’s been a few years since I first started this website. As I reread my original About page, I realized how much has changed — and how much experience has quietly added up along the way. With more than 20 years of hands-on soap making and natural skincare experience, it felt like the right time for an update.

While I don’t do markets as frequently as I once did, I still participate in a few shows each year and work with a small number of local stores. Today, my focus is on sharing what I’ve learned with those who are just beginning their soap-making journey — or anyone who wants to better understand traditional, ingredient-focused skincare.

My Story

My story began in my 20s, when I became deeply interested in natural living and traditional ways of making everyday products. I wanted to better understand what went into the soaps and skincare items my family and I used, and that curiosity led me to learn how soap is made from scratch.

At first, the idea of working with lye was intimidating. But as I learned more about the soap-making process, I came to understand that lye is an essential component of real soap making and is fully consumed during saponification when used correctly. That knowledge gave me the confidence to move forward and experiment with simple, traditional recipes.

What started as a learning experience quickly became a creative outlet. I began experimenting with different oils, natural colorants, and essential oil blends, and before long, soap making turned into a passion. Over time, this expanded into creating other handcrafted products such as lotions, creams, and bath items.

Eventually, I began sharing and selling my handmade products at craft fairs, markets, and retail stores. While I’ve since slowed down on in-person sales, my love for the craft and for teaching others has never faded.

What I Can Teach You

After years of hands-on experience, I’ve learned how ingredient choices, formulation, and technique all work together to create well-balanced, high-quality soap and skincare products. Through this site, I share the knowledge I’ve gained, along with recipes and tutorials I’ve developed and used over many years.

My goal is to help beginners feel confident, informed, and inspired as they learn the art and science of soap making — whether you’re making soap for yourself, for friends and family, or as a small business venture.

My Goal

This website exists to educate, encourage, and share practical knowledge. Soap making is both a creative craft and a precise process, and I believe anyone can learn it with the right guidance and a solid understanding of the basics.

You’ll find step-by-step tutorials, ingredient guides, and recipes that focus on traditional methods and thoughtful formulation. Everything shared here is based on real experience, careful practice, and a love for the craft.

A Word of Caution

Everyone’s skin is different. While I personally use the products I make, ingredients such as essential oils and botanicals may not be suitable for everyone. Always research ingredients carefully, use proper dilutions, and discontinue use if irritation occurs.

Happy Soap Making,
All the best,
Teresa
